🧱 Another Totally Reasonable Project Seeking 14 Completely Routine Variances
Eight months after an 18-unit apartment building was proposed in downtown Bedford Hills, another project has arrived practically next door. This one brings 10 more units and an impressively confident collection of variances.
The proposal includes setback variances for porches extending nearly six feet beyond allowed limits, building coverage relief, retaining walls in the town right-of-way, and yet more parking variances in a downtown district where residents, employees, and business owners already compete daily for spaces that do not exist.
The precedent in Bedford is now unmistakable. Once enough exceptions are granted, developers stop trying to fit projects into the town and start forcing the town to fit the project.
At this point, Bedford residents are watching a Town Board that treats aggressive overdevelopment the way exhausted parents treat a toddler asking for candy in a checkout line.
